Why We Chose Google Voice For Our Business Phone Service

Introduction

As a business owner, having reliable phone service is crucial. Before I moved to New Mexico from Northern California, I used my cell phone as my business phone number. It worked well until I relocated to my new apartment building, which had cell phone antennas for all three major carriers on the roof. Ironically, this led to terrible cell phone service—my phone wouldn't always ring when clients called. Since I work from home this was unacceptable for my business.

Faced with the need for a dependable phone service not dependent on cell signal, I turned to Google Voice

Why Google Voice?

Since I was already using Google Workspace for my business, integrating Google Voice was a natural choice.  It works over wi-fi, instead of a landline or cellular service. Here’s why I believe Google Voice is the ideal phone service for small business owners:

  1. Unified Communication: Google Voice integrates seamlessly with Google Workspace apps like Gmail and Google Calendar, streamlining communication channels and improving efficiency.
  2. Cost-Effective: It offers free domestic calls within the U.S. and affordable international rates, making it a budget-friendly option for small businesses.
  3. Virtual Number: Google Voice allows you to choose a local virtual phone number, giving your business a professional presence. I was able to switch from my California number to a local New Mexico number effortlessly.
  4. Call Forwarding: With Google Voice, calls can be forwarded to any device. This means I never miss an important call, whether I'm at my desk or on the go.
  5. Voicemail Transcription: Voicemails are transcribed into text, making it easy to read messages in your inbox or via SMS, saving time and enhancing productivity.
  6. Spam Filtering: Google Voice automatically filters out spam calls, reducing interruptions and helping me stay focused on my work.
  7. Custom Greetings: You can set up personalized voicemail greetings for different callers or schedules, adding a professional touch to your business communication.
  8. Integration with Google Services: Integration with Google Contacts makes managing and accessing contacts straightforward and efficient.
Since switching to Google Voice, I haven't had any trouble receiving calls. Plus, with the Google Voice app, I can receive business calls even when I'm away from home without having to remember to set up call forwarding.

Wrapping Up

For anyone experiencing unreliable cell service or simply looking for a robust and integrated phone solution, I highly recommend Google Voice. It has transformed my business communication, ensuring I never miss an important call and can maintain a professional presence no matter where I am.
